How To Use No-fly Zones To Manage Overhead Cranes In CNC Machining Centers

If you’re an overhead crane operator working in a CNC Machining Center, you may be able to benefit from Laser-View Technologies’ Crane Sentry® Zone Manager System!

Oftentimes, CNC Machining Centers have automated tool changers that move with the spindle and cycle up and down. When using an overhead crane to load/unload work pieces in the machine tool, crane access can be disabled around the parked head position via a fixed, no-fly zone.

While the machine is operating, another no-fly zone around the entire machine footprint disables crane use over the machine until the head is parked in a safe position, permitting access to the work piece. This is commonly accomplished using a Laser-View Technologies’ Crane Sentry® Zone Manager System and by creating a no-fly zone inside a no-fly zone.
