The Crane Sentry® Hoist Side Pull is manufactured and marketed by Laser-View Technologies for detecting side pulling in industrial applications. Hoist Side Pull Detection is capable of detecting excessive side pull on a wire rope hoist or chain hoist. It can be used to alert the operator of the condition or disable functions.
Hoist Side Pull

Reasons For Side Pull Detection
1. Damage to Hoist
Most standard hoists are not engineered to handle side pull load
2. Personnel Injury
Injury is possible if the load shifts once it is lifted from its resting place on the floor or a staging fixture
3. Damage to Equipment
Damage to nearby equipment is possible once the load shifts after it is lifted
Wire Rope Hoist Side Pull Solutions
- Solid state side pull detection system consists of an assembly that mounts to the wire rope
- Mount assembly to the dead end (fixed end) or around the equalizer sheath
- Install on single or double reeved hoists
- Adapts to a range of wire rope diameters
- Controls mount to the hoist or trolley and provide an intuitive menu driven interface
- One button zero feature
- Sets limits, timing, hysteresis
- Built in error logging (time and date); last 5 events

Chain Hoist Side Pull Solutions
- Solid state side pull detection system consisting of a wireless battery operated sensor that mounts to the load block
- No cabling between sensors and hoist body
- Slim design that mounts to the load block
- Control system that mounts to the hoist body
- Omni-directional (combination of X and Y) model available
- One button zero feature
- Set limits, timing, hysteresis
- Built in error logging (time and date) that displays the last 5 events
Why Use Crane Sentry® Hoist Side Pull?
- Usage of hoists for lifting loads in industrial applications has inherent risk, requiring the need for safety precautions
- If a load is not lifted directly vertical and is permitted to side load a hoist, referred to as “side pulling”
- Side pulling can damage to the hoist, injury to personnel, and/or damage to nearby equipment
- Detection of potential side pull conditions can be tied into hoist controls to not permit a lift under this condition
- Side pulling a hoist is not permitted by OSHA regulations under most conditions
- Many hoists installed in industry do not have any form of side pull protection installed
