JSW Steel in Mingo Junction, Ohio had selected Laser-View Technologies in its slab caster upgrade as a supplier of laser width measurement. A pair of laser distance meters were supplied, equipped with precision laser distance sensors from Dimetix installed in a rugged sealed, cooled, and protective enclosure.
The entire enclosure is cooled and includes a proprietary air purge for the laser window to keep the optic clear of debris for a long duration. This system is being installed only several feet from the outlets of the caster and will see about 2500° F temperatures.
Earlier versions of this design have been in service at Arcelor Mittal Burns in Harbor, Indiana (now Cleveland-Cliffs) and Outokumpu Calvert in Alabama.
